Dr Maria Chalia

Dr Maria Chalia is a highly accomplished Consultant Neonatologist and Paediatrician based in London, specialising in the care of newborns and infants. With a focus on neonatal neurology and advanced brain monitoring, she provides expert clinical care for infants facing complex medical challenges. Her clinical practice is dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of safety and treatment for the youngest and most vulnerable patients, particularly those requiring intensive care or specialised neurological evaluation.

Her areas of clinical interest and expertise encompass a wide range of neonatal conditions, including neonatal seizures, brain injury, and respiratory failure in the newborn. Dr Chalia has a particular interest in neonatal electroencephalography (EEG) and advanced neuroimaging techniques, such as diffuse optical imaging and optical topography. Her work focuses on the detection and management of seizures, the evaluation of cerebrovascular reactivity, and the prevention of brain injury in neonates, helping to improve long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes.

Dr Chalia qualified in medicine in 2004, earning her Medical Degree from the University of Patras in Greece. She subsequently completed her medical and paediatric training in Greece before moving to the United Kingdom, where she obtained her Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH) in 2012. She went on to complete an MD research degree in Neonatal Medicine at the University of Cambridge, focusing on diffuse optical imaging and EEG. To further her expertise, she also completed a post-Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) EEG Fellowship, specialising in neonatal EEG.

In addition to her clinical work, she serves as a College Tutor in Paediatrics, contributing to the education and training of future medical professionals. Through her research and teaching, Dr Chalia remains at the forefront of neonatal medicine, striving to advance clinical practices and improve care standards for infants globally.
