About Dr. Dunia Ismail
Dr. Dunia Ismail serves as a Consultant Paediatrician specialising in Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital. In her role, she holds the position of clinical lead for the Paediatric Endocrine and Diabetes service, overseeing comprehensive care for young patients with these conditions. Additionally, she leads the MDT Diabetes clinics, facilitating expert virtual diabetes data reviews for all UTD HCL ( Hybrid closed loop) Insulin delivery system analysis.
Having completed her medical training and core Paediatric Specialty training in Europe at the University Hospitals of Palermo, Italy, Dr. Ismail pursued international specialty training in Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes. She furthered her expertise through a clinical research fellowship at the esteemed Paediatric Centre of the Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) in Melbourne in 2004. There, she had the privilege of working alongside distinguished experts in the field, including Professor G Werther, Dr. M Zacharin, and Professor F Cameron. During this, Dr. Ismail contributed to the field with the publication of four articles, three of which as the first author.
Subsequently, Dr. Ismail served at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) for four and a half years as a senior clinical fellow under the guidance of world-renowned expert Prof Khalid Hussain. During her time at GOSH, she developed a sub-specialty interest in glucose physiology and Hyperinsulinism, producing several first-author papers on the topic.
Fluent in Italian (her mother tongue), Arabic, and French, Dr. Ismail ensures effective communication with patients in multiple languages. Outside of her professional endeavours, she enjoys spending quality time with her family.

A very thorough and comprehensive initial consultation with Dr Ismail, who we also see for our son’s thyroid-related needs. We always feel like we are in good hands with her knowledge and care and it was no different on this occasion. Dr Ismail answered all of our questions and it felt reassuring to know that we can have our daughter’s status with her thyroid wellbeing sensibly checked, especially with our family history. Our daughter isn’t amazing with blood tests/needles and she was able to lie down on a bed with an iPad for this one. So much less drama than our most recent experience at an NHS hospital, where she had to sit on a chair. Top marks to Danika for her sensitive approach/handling and hopefully this will be a big help for our daughter for her experience with future blood draws too.

Dr Ismail has been nothing short of amazing in our journey to try and work out what might be going on with our son. She has been incredibly thorough, kind and helpful every step of the way and we are so grateful to be under her care.
We had a blood test and u/s today. All staff were kind, explained each step of the tests and did their utmost to make my child feel at ease. The facilities are spotless and everyone is so friendly. Such a brilliant clinic.
