Are you Manuel Toren?
Manuel Toren is a BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and Integrative Psychotherapist who treats a range of mental health conditions including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), phobias, panic attacks, psychosexual difficulties, depression, anxiety, anger problems, stress, sleep disorders, work-related stress and more. He uses evidence-based approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and counselling, drawing on integrative methods that combine psychoanalytic, existential, humanistic, and person-centred principles.
Manuel began his clinical work in the charitable sector in 2010, working with organisations such as Redbridge Alcohol Service, Mind in Tower Hamlets & Newham, and Jobs in Mind, where he supported people with psychosis through therapy and vocational training. In 2017, he joined the NHS, delivering CBT at Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT), where he gained a postgraduate diploma in CBT and specialist training in managing long-term health conditions. He has also worked as a locum across various NHS mental health trusts including South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust and Black Country Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
In addition to his work at Nightingale Hospital, where he leads therapy for the OCD and Related Disorders programme, Manuel also runs a private practice. He delivers individual and group therapy, develops course material, and continues to explore his special interests in the psychological impact of medically unexplained conditions such as IBS, ME, and fibromyalgia.
Manuel's personal approach is focused on helping individuals regain their footing and build meaningful, fulfilling lives. His therapeutic work is collaborative, with an emphasis on trust, respect, and the client’s potential for personal growth. He integrates therapeutic tools to address core psychological difficulties, and has a particular interest in memory reconsolidation and its role in mental health recovery.
His research includes co-authoring the publication The Persecutory Character of Irritable Bowel Syndrome: A Grounded Theory Analysis of the Lived Experience of IBS Sufferers (2017) in the Journal of Psychological Therapies. He has also contributed to psychodynamic clinical perspectives on psychosis.
