Mr. Mahmoud Radwan is a highly skilled consultant ophthalmic surgeon with a focus on the management of Cataracr, glaucoma and complex cataract surgery. With nearly two decades of experience in the field, he has established himself as an expert in these specialised areas.

Mr. Radwan's journey in the field of ophthalmology began when he graduated in 2002. He underwent higher specialist ophthalmology training at prestigious institutions, including Cardiff, Edinburgh, and Cambridge university hospitals. This comprehensive training laid the foundation for his career in ophthalmology.

His commitment to excellence and continuous learning led him to pursue a Senior Glaucoma Fellowship at the renowned Western Eye Hospital in London. During this fellowship, he gained extensive expertise in the medical and surgical management of both glaucoma and cataract conditions.

In his practice, Mr. Radwan focuses on managing various forms of glaucoma, employing a patient-centred approach that tailors treatment to each individual's needs. He utilises a range of techniques, including medical and interventional methods, to ensure the best possible outcomes for his patients.

His surgical expertise includes various procedures, such as Augmented Trabeculectomy, Baerveldt and Ahmed drainage tube surgery, laser peripheral iridotomy (Yag PI), minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), and selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT). He is also skilled in performing advanced laser treatments like MicroPulse Diode Laser Therapy (TLT) and Endoscopic Cyclophoto-coagulation (ECP) for glaucoma management.

In addition to his specialisation in glaucoma, Mr. Radwan is highly trained in complex cataract surgery. He performs procedures such as phacoemulsification and Femtosecond Laser Assisted Cataract surgery, utilising premium intraocular lenses to address conditions like astigmatism and presbyopia.

Mr. Radwan's commitment to the field of ophthalmology goes beyond his clinical practice. He serves as an examiner at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and takes on the role of the Optometric Lead, demonstrating his dedication to advancing the field and ensuring high standards of care.

Mr Mahmoud Radwan, was delayed in getting to the medical centre before my cataract surgery but as soon as he arrived he put me completely at ease. In theatre he explained what was happening without going into to much detail and I felt I was in safe hands throughout the procedure. Once I sat upright in the operating theatre I could read signs on the walls i could never have read without glasses before. Thanks for everything you did for me.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to Mr Radwan for my cataract surgery. The procedure was highly successful, and the improvement in my vision has exceeded all my expectations. Before the surgery, I needed glasses for driving, reading, and computer work. I am delighted to say that I no longer need glasses for any of these activities. I would have no hesitation in recommending Mr Radwan to anyone considering cataract surgery.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I’m delighted that you’re already enjoying such a significant improvement in your vision. A slight gritty sensation on the day of surgery is quite common and usually settles quickly, so I’m pleased to hear that your eye felt much better by the next morning. Your kind comments about the care you received mean a great deal to both me and the team. I look forward to seeing you again for your second eye surgery and helping you achieve another excellent outcome.

Cataracts are one of the most common eye conditions worldwide and a leading cause of gradually reduced vision. Thankfully, cataract surgery is also one of the safest and most successful operations in modern medicine, restoring clear sight for millions every year. What Are Cataracts? A cataract occurs when the natural lens inside the eye becomes cloudy with age. Although commonly age-related, cataracts can also occur due to genetics, diabetes, trauma, steroid use, inflammation, smoking, or UV exposure. Common Symptoms: • Blurry or misty vision • Difficulty reading • Glare from lights (especially at night) • Faded colours • Double vision in one eye • Frequent changes in glasses Types of Cataracts: • Nuclear cataracts – age-related, blur distance vision • Cortical cataracts – glare and night-driving symptoms • Posterior subcapsular cataracts – progress fast, cause glare and reading difficulty • Congenital/secondary cataracts – younger patients, trauma, diabetes, medications When Is Treatment Needed? Cataract surgery is the only effective treatment once vision becomes affected. You may be ready if daily activities or driving are impacted, glare becomes troublesome, or your optician advises surgery. Driving and Cataracts: Cataracts reduce clarity and increase glare, making night driving especially challenging. Surgery often restores driving confidence quickly. Cataract Surgery – Safe, Quick, Highly Effective: Modern cataract surgery takes 10–15 minutes and is performed under local anaesthetic drops. Why Patients Choose Mr Radwan: With over 25,000 cataract surgeries performed, Mr Mahmoud Radwan is highly experienced in safe, precise micro-incision cataract surgery. Patients frequently describe the procedure as much easier than expected, with rapid recovery and excellent outcomes. Premium Lens Options: • Enhanced Monofocal Lenses (Eyhance, PureSee, Odyssey, Galaxy) • EDOF Lenses (Vivity) • Multifocal/Trifocal Lenses (AT Lara, PanOptix) • Toric Lenses for astigmatism These options help reduce or eliminate the need for glasses and are tailored to each patient’s lifestyle. Conclusion: Cataracts are common but very treatable. Under the care of Mr Mahmoud Radwan, patients benefit from world‑class techniques, modern equipment, reassurance throughout the process, and access to premium lens options.
