Dr John Pauling

Dr John Pauling is a highly experienced Consultant Rheumatologist who provides expert diagnostic and therapeutic care for individuals suffering from a wide spectrum of musculoskeletal and autoimmune conditions. With a patient-centred approach, Dr Pauling focuses on delivering tailored treatment plans that address each individual's unique health needs. He works closely with patients to manage chronic rheumatological symptoms, reduce pain, and enhance overall quality of life.

Dr Pauling earned his Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMedSci) and Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS) degrees from Nottingham University Medical School, qualifying in 2002. He subsequently completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) specialising in systemic sclerosis research and peripheral microvascular dysfunction. A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) in Rheumatology, Dr Pauling maintains active memberships with prestigious bodies such as the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR) Microcirculation Study Group, the Scleroderma Clinical Trials Consortium, and the UK Scleroderma Study Group.

Dr Pauling's clinical expertise encompasses General Rheumatology alongside specialised fields such as connective tissue diseases and vasculitis. He holds a particular focus on systemic sclerosis (scleroderma) and Raynaud's phenomenon, as well as digital vasculopathy in autoimmune rheumatic diseases. His practice also extends to managing secondary complications of rheumatic illness, including interstitial lung disease and pulmonary arterial hypertension.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr Pauling is dedicated to advancing the field of Rheumatology through ongoing research into novel diagnostic tools and patient-reported outcome measures. He has contributed significantly to international initiatives aimed at improving treatment options and assessment methods for vascular complications in rheumatic disease.
