Dr Joanne Tod

Dr Joanne Tod is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Consultant Hepatologist who provides comprehensive medical care for individuals experiencing a wide range of gastrointestinal, liver, and pancreatic conditions. Known for her clinical diligence and reassuring approach, Dr Tod focuses on delivering high-quality, patient-centred care tailored to each patient's needs. Her practice combines advanced diagnostic evaluations with evidence-based management across all aspects of digestive health.

In her clinical practice, Dr Tod treats a broad spectrum of gastrointestinal and hepatic disorders. Her primary areas of focus include non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, liver cirrhosis, portal hypertension, and hepatocellular carcinoma. She regularly evaluates and manages complex presentations such as jaundice, deranged liver function tests, viral hepatitis, and autoimmune or metabolic liver diseases. Additionally, she possesses subspecialist expertise in pancreatology and neuroendocrine tumours, contributing her skills to multidisciplinary teams providing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic care.

Dr Tod completed her undergraduate medical degree at Imperial College London, graduating with distinction in 2004 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) alongside a First Class Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree. She subsequently undertook specialist higher clinical training in gastroenterology and hepatology in the Wessex region, complemented by an advanced specialist hepatology fellowship incorporating liver transplant experience. Dr Tod earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) investigating the molecular mechanisms of pancreatic cancer under a Medical Research Council Fellowship, and later held an appointment as a National Institute for Health and Care Research Academic Clinical Lecturer. She has also completed the European Pancreas 2000 programme and holds a Diploma in Pancreatology.
