Dr Jayakara Shetty

Dr Jayakara Shetty is an accomplished Consultant Paediatrician and Consultant Paediatric Neurologist dedicated to delivering comprehensive, patient-centred care for children and young people. Focusing on complex neurological conditions in childhood, Dr Shetty provides compassionate support to young patients and their families, ensuring that every child receives tailored medical care designed to optimise their developmental potential and overall quality of life.

With deep expertise in paediatric neurology, Dr Shetty specialises in the diagnosis and management of childhood-onset epilepsy, paediatric neuroinflammatory disorders, and rare neurodevelopmental conditions. His clinical work encompasses advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including long-term electroencephalogram monitoring, stereoelectroencephalography, and evaluation for paediatric epilepsy surgery. Additionally, he maintains a strong clinical interest in central nervous system infections, Rett syndrome, and emerging gene therapies for rare paediatric neurological disorders.

Dr Shetty completed his foundational medical education at Mysore Medical College, University of Mysore, where he obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. He subsequently completed specialist post-graduate training in child health and paediatric neurology, attaining Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in 2005 and Fellowship of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in 2012. He is an active member of professional organisations, including the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and the British Paediatric Neurology Association.

Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Shetty is deeply engaged in medical education and clinical research aimed at improving health outcomes for young patients. He contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching, supervises research trainees, and leads clinical projects focusing on digital innovation and therapeutic interventions for childhood epilepsy.
