Professor Jan Kovac

Professor Jan Kovac is a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon with 25 years of experience. Jan specialises in LAA closure, Minimally invasive mitral procedures, PFO closure, Stroke prevention interventions and TAVI and balloon aortic valvuloplasty. He is Head of Cardiology at Leicester University Hospitals and practices privately at Spire Nottingham Hospital.

Jan qualified as a doctor at Charles University, Prague, after which he came to the UK for postgraduate training. Since being appointed Consultant, Jan has gained accolades for his innovation, dedication and passion he has brought to cardiology. He is internationally recognised as a leader of structural heart interventions and chairs the Stroke Council for the European Society of Cardiology. He was also the first cardiologist to perform TAVI in the UK.
