Dr James McCaslin

Dr James McCaslin is a dedicated Consultant Vascular and General Surgeon who delivers high-quality surgical care for a broad range of circulatory and surgical conditions. Combining technical expertise in open and minimally invasive procedures, Dr McCaslin focuses on providing tailored treatment strategies that prioritise patient safety and long-term wellbeing. He is known for his reassuring clinical approach, ensuring patients feel fully informed and supported throughout their care journey.

Dr McCaslin earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Newcastle University. He completed extensive higher surgical training in the region, earning his Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) and a Master of Surgery (MD) research degree. To refine his expertise in complex keyhole procedures, he completed a specialist endovascular fellowship in Perth, Western Australia. Dr McCaslin is actively involved in surgical education and professional governance, serving on the council of the British Society of Endovascular Therapy, holding a role as a Training Programme Director for vascular surgery, and co-founding a national multidisciplinary endovascular training collaborative.

In his clinical practice, Dr McCaslin offers diagnostic evaluation and surgical management for both arterial and venous disorders. His areas of expertise encompass the treatment of peripheral arterial disease, aortic aneurysms, and varicose veins. He performs a full range of endovascular interventions, including angioplasty, complex endovascular aneurysm repair, and innovative stent therapies designed to restore blood flow. Additionally, Dr McCaslin contributes to clinical research with a focus on surgical simulation, platelet function, and modern vascular techniques to continually improve patient outcomes.
