About Mr James Childs
Mr James Childs is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in disorders of the knee and hip. He is able to treat a range of conditions including sports injuries, ligament injuries, arthritis, and patellar instability.
His areas of interest include the following:

Mr Childs takes an evidence-based approach to treatment and personalises his care for each of his patients. He strongly believes that patients should be fully informed of all the options available to them for their condition, and he ensures that the treatment plan is tailored specifically to each individual.
He trained at the University of St Andrews as well as the University of Manchester before undertaking specialised orthopaedic training in the North West of England. Following this, he became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and completed a fellowship at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital focusing on joint preservation in knee disorders. He then undertook a second fellowship in knee and hip joint replacement at Wrightington hospital.
Mr Childs is a member of both the British Orthopaedic Association and the British Association for Surgery of the Knee. He is actively involved in both resaarch and teaching and has completed a Postgraduate diploma in medical education.

I initially visited Mr Childs last year due to trauma on my knees. Even after the MRI scan showed no damage, he didn't give up on it and ended up having an arthroscopy and fixing the damage inside. So didn't hesitate when the other knee started playing up to visit him again. Another arthroscopy fixing the problem. He is very empathic and approachable. I would recommend him to anyone that has a knee/hip problem without hesitation.

However, you were able to articulate the symptoms well which gave me confidence to proceed with a diagnostic arthroscopy and we found the problem. I am delighted you have recovered and rehabilitated so well.

Mr Childs has very calming way about him, reassuring in advice to support to help me manage arthritis in my hip. I have used him twice now to assess where my hip is and discuss issues that may have flared up. Very fluid assessment that always leaves me much more relaxed about my condition and that no surgery is required. Very pleased to have him as my consultant. Would highly recommend.

I’m 7 weeks post full knee replacement with the robotic arm. I am walking without a limp, a great range of movement and experiencing pain free periods. When I do have pain it’s considerably less than before. Mr Childs and his team were reassuring as I was very anxious. Would recommend Me Childs and his team.
