Mr Yousaf Nadeem Akhtar

Mr Yousaf Nadeem Akhtar is a Consultant General Surgeon who completed the majority of his clinical training in Ireland before moving to the UK in 2006. He was appointed as a Consultant in 2012 and, after two years at Worcester Hospital, took up a substantive post at Royal Bolton Hospital as a Benign Upper GI, General and Emergency Surgeon. He is listed on the specialist registers of both the Irish Medical Council and the UK General Medical Council.

At Royal Bolton Hospital, Mr Akhtar’s elective practice focuses on benign general and upper gastrointestinal surgery. His operative work includes gallbladder surgery, hernia repair, removal of benign lumps and skin lesions, treatment of anal skin tags, and management of pilonidal sinus disease. He also undertakes emergency surgery, including procedures for inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis resections, as well as operations for bowel cancer, bowel obstruction, gallbladder emergencies and other acute surgical conditions.

Alongside his clinical duties, Mr Akhtar plays an active role in education and professional development. He serves as a clinical appraiser for doctors, a clinical and educational supervisor for trainee doctors, and a trainer for physician associates. As a Consultant General Surgeon at Royal Bolton Hospital, he is also a core member of the Upper GI and Surgical Multidisciplinary Teams (MDT), contributing to collaborative decision-making and high-quality patient care.
