Dr James Callaghan

Dr James Callaghan is a highly skilled Consultant Gastroenterologist and Consultant Hepatologist who specialises in the management of complex gastrointestinal and liver conditions. With a reassuring and patient-centred approach, he is dedicated to providing personalised, high-quality care. Dr Callaghan has a particular clinical focus on pancreato-biliary medicine, upper gastrointestinal diseases, and pancreatic disorders, alongside treating a wide range of common digestive issues.

As an Expert Endoscopist, Dr Callaghan has extensive experience in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. He serves as a Clinical Lead for Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), and has been instrumental in introducing and developing therapeutic EUS services. His clinical interests also encompass inflammatory bowel disease and liver cirrhosis, ensuring that patients benefit from the latest evidence-based treatments and advanced endoscopic techniques.

Dr Callaghan completed his medical training at St George's Hospital Medical School, qualifying with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2005. He went on to achieve Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians (MRCP) in 2009, and subsequently obtained his specialty-specific MRCP in Gastroenterology in 2017. He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and remains actively involved in clinical education and research to support the ongoing development of gastroenterological care.
