Dr Irene Gafson

Dr Irene Gafson is a dedicated Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who provides compassionate and comprehensive care across all stages of women's reproductive health. With a patient-centred approach, she offers tailored clinical management that addresses both complex obstetric conditions and general gynaecological concerns. Dr Gafson is deeply committed to delivering empathetic, high-quality care that supports the physical and emotional well-being of women and birthing individuals.

In her clinical practice, Dr Gafson specialises in Obstetrics & Gynaecology with distinct clinical interests in preterm birth prevention, perinatal mental health, and outpatient hysteroscopy. She leads specialised antenatal services alongside multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to support patients experiencing mental health challenges during pregnancy and the postnatal period. Additionally, she delivers advanced gynaecological care, including minimally invasive diagnostic procedures such as outpatient hysteroscopy, to evaluate and manage a wide array of gynaecological symptoms efficiently.

Dr Gafson qualified with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and a Bachelor of Medical Science (BMedSci) from Nottingham Medical School in 2007. Demonstrating a strong dedication to academic excellence and medical training, she subsequently completed a Master's degree in Health Professions Education at University College London, alongside postgraduate qualifications in medical education. Dr Gafson is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
