Dr Hannah Tharmalingam

Dr Hannah Tharmalingam is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist specialising in the comprehensive management of gynaecological and urological cancers. She provides evidence-based, compassionate care for patients presenting with complex malignancies, incorporating both advanced radiation therapy and systemic treatments. Dr Tharmalingam focuses on delivering individualised cancer care that addresses each patient's specific diagnosis, helping to optimise therapeutic outcomes while maintaining quality of life throughout the treatment pathway.

In her clinical practice, Dr Tharmalingam utilises advanced radiotherapy techniques and imaging innovations to deliver highly precise treatments. Her expertise includes stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy (SABR), high-dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy, personalised radiotherapy, and functional MRI-guided planning. She is particularly interested in radiogenomics, tumour hypoxia, and the use of protective devices such as hydrogel rectal spacers to minimise side effects during treatment. Alongside her clinical duties, she remains actively involved in research as a Principal Investigator for clinical trials and serves as a National Clinical Advisor for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Dr Tharmalingam studied medicine at the University of Oxford, graduating with a First-Class Honours degree, and completed her medical qualification in 2009. She subsequently undertook specialist training in Clinical Oncology alongside a Clinical Research Fellowship focusing on prostate brachytherapy, later completing her research doctorate (MD Res). She holds Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR). Having previously served as Vice-President for Clinical Oncology at the Royal College of Radiologists, she maintains active professional memberships with the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) and the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO).
