Dr Andreas Polychronis

Dr Andreas Polychronis is a Consultant Medical Oncologist specialising in thoracic and gastrointestinal cancers, including cancers of unknown primary and acute oncology. His clinical interests include lung cancer, bowel and colorectal cancer, upper gastrointestinal cancer and mesothelioma, as well as chemotherapy, biological agents and the use of immunotherapies in cancer.

Dr Polychronis qualified in medicine in 1995 and obtained MRCP in 1998. His post-qualification training included Guy's and St Thomas', St George's, the Royal Marsden, the Royal Free and Mount Vernon Hospitals. He subsequently completed specialist training in medical oncology through the pan-Thames rotation.

As a research fellow at the Cancer Cell Biology Laboratories at Imperial College, Dr Polychronis undertook work leading to a PhD in molecular biology. He obtained his PhD in 2007, with research focusing on growth factor signalling pathways in cancer. Dr Polychronis is actively involved in clinical research, acting as a chief national and local principal investigator on clinical trials within the national portfolio and participating in phase II and III clinical trials of novel therapeutic agents.

Dr Polychronis works within multidisciplinary teams covering lung, colorectal and upper gastrointestinal cancers, contributing to specialist discussions involving medical and surgical disciplines. He also advises pharmaceutical companies on relevant cancer strategies.

He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the British Thoracic Oncology Group and the Association of Cancer Physicians of the UK.
