Mr George Ramsay

Mr George Ramsay is a dedicated Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon who provides high-quality, patient-centred care for a wide range of general surgical and gastrointestinal conditions. He works closely with patients to deliver thorough diagnostic assessments and personalised treatment plans, addressing both benign bowel conditions and complex colorectal health concerns. His approach combines clinical precision with a reassuring bedside manner, ensuring patients feel fully supported throughout their treatment pathway.

Mr Ramsay completed his undergraduate medical studies at the University of Edinburgh, earning a Bachelor of Science in Medical Microbiology in 2004 and his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) in 2007. Following higher surgical training across Scotland, he undertook advanced research into gastrointestinal immunology, receiving a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mucosal Immunology from the University of Dundee in 2015. In the same year, he earned Membership of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers (MFSTEd) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He achieved Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS in General Surgery) in 2019. He is an active member of professional bodies including the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, where he serves as Chair of the Emergency General Surgical Subcommittee.

In his clinical practice, Mr Ramsay maintains a strong focus on improving surgical outcomes, surgical safety, and patient care standards. As a Senior Clinical Lecturer alongside his surgical work, he contributes actively to medical research and surgical education. His clinical expertise spans emergency surgical care, colorectal cancer management, inflammatory bowel disorders, and abdominal wall hernia repairs. Patients undergoing procedures under his care benefit from evidence-based techniques aimed at minimising complications and promoting a smooth recovery.
