Dr Gavin Spence

Dr Gavin Spence is a Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon dedicated to providing comprehensive, compassionate, and specialist care for infants, children, and young adults with musculoskeletal conditions. He focuses on restoring mobility and correcting complex physical deformities through individualised treatment plans, working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal clinical outcomes. His reassuring and patient-focused approach helps young patients and their families feel supported throughout every stage of assessment and treatment.

Dr Spence completed his medical qualification and earned a research Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree at Cambridge University. He completed higher surgical training in London and Cambridge before undertaking specialist clinical fellowships in paediatric orthopaedics and limb reconstruction across leading medical institutions in the United Kingdom and Australia. He holds Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, FRCS (Orth), and maintains active membership with professional bodies including the British Orthopaedic Association. Recognised for his contribution to medical education, Dr Spence was awarded Trainer of the Year by the British Orthopaedic Trainees Association in 2019.

With extensive expertise in complex limb reconstruction, Dr Spence specialises in correcting congenital and acquired limb deformities, as well as limb lengthening. He has pioneered modern surgical techniques, including the application of circular external fixators, intramedullary limb-lengthening devices, and custom 3D-printed surgical jigs to enhance operative precision. His clinical repertoire encompasses the management of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), clubfoot, complex foot deformities, paediatric fractures and trauma, alongside orthopaedic manifestations of cerebral palsy, neuromuscular disorders, and syndromic conditions.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Spence is an active researcher, educator, and international speaker on paediatric trauma and limb reconstruction. He regularly contributes to peer-reviewed scientific literature and leads training courses for emerging orthopaedic specialists.
