Dr Flora McErlane

Dr Flora McErlane is an accomplished Consultant Paediatric Rheumatologist and Consultant Paediatrician who is dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate care to children and young people. She specialises in diagnosing and managing complex musculoskeletal and autoimmune conditions in paediatric patients, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic and personalised treatment plans for every child.

Her clinical work covers a broad range of paediatric rheumatology conditions, with particular expertise in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), vasculitis, scleroderma, connective tissue diseases, and central nervous system (CNS) vasculitis. Dr McErlane has a strong interest in adolescent medicine, focusing on regional transition pathways that support young people as they move from paediatric to adult care. In addition to her clinical practice, she plays a prominent role in national quality improvement initiatives, working to standardise best practices, enhance patient registries, and improve treatment outcomes for young patients nationwide.

Dr McErlane earned her medical degree, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB), and holds a Master of Science (MSc) degree. She is a Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH). She is actively involved in professional organisations and national research groups, serving as a clinician representative on the UK Paediatric Rheumatology Clinical Studies Group, joint convenor for the British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) Special Interest Group in Adolescents and Young Adults, and deputy chair of the Barbara Ansell National Network for Adolescent Rheumatology (BANNAR).
