Dr Tom Hyde

Tom is an expert senior consultant cardiolgogist based in Swindon, he was appointed at the Great Western hosptial in 2006. He is London trained, both medical school and speciality cardiology training.

He is happy to see patients without a referral. He is approachable, a good listener and will put you at your ease. After a consultation he will check your understanding and offer you a written clear plan of the possible problem and the next steps. He is happy for patients to contact him directly for questions.

His is a full time NHS Cardiologist, and has been for over 20 years. This means that you will be in experienced hands.  He has a deep knowledge of all aspects of cardiology and keeps up to date. He is interested in seeing all patients who have concerns or who require a referral. He will have access to your local NHS records which can be extremely useful.

He has a particular and niche experience in preventative cardiology, in particular the personalised use of coronary CT to assess heart health. This can be very reassuring for people worried about their risk of coronary disease. It can help and guide decision making about lifestyle and preventative medication to avoid future coronary diseae (heart attack and angina).

He is an expert in all other aspects of coronary heart disease care and does offer an urgent private rapid access chest pain service. He performs angiogram and stenting procedures.

Originally qualifying from St George's Medical School, he was the recipient of the James Hope gold medal prize for cardiology. He went on to complete his specialist training at St Barts and the London Chest Hospital in one of the UK's busiest and renowned cardiac units with three years of dedicated high volume training in coronary stenting. He has also undergone training in cardiac CT in both Los Angeles and the UK. His MD was completed at Green Lane Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand, where he was clinically based studying the outcomes of patients with acute coronary conditions. More recently he has been a council member of the British Cardiovascular Society and a member of their Ischaemic Heart Disease steering group. He has set us a specialist angina clinic in Swindon.
