About Dr Tariq Azeem

Dr Azeem is a Consultant Cardiologist with special interest in coronary angioplasty and stenting, angina, hypertension, heart attack, heart failure, atrial fibrillation and dizziess, valvular heart diseases and cardiomyopathy.

Dr Tariq Azeem is an interventional and general cardiologist at Royal Derby Hospital. After graduating he trained as a junior doctor mainly in regions of the North West of England. His cardiology training began in City Hospital Birmingham, where he worked as a clinical fellow for 2 years completing his specialist training in cardiology at Glenfield Hospital Leicester. After completing his specialist training in Cardiology he was appointed as an Interventional Cardiologist in Royal Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr Azeem has played a leading role in setting up of the coronary intervention service in Derbyshire and has led the development of the Primary PCI Service in Derby to ensure that the patients in Derbyshire are treated locally and do not have to travel far or elsewhere after having a heart attack.

Dr Azeem has written various research articles on Interventional procedures such as vascular brachy therapy, intra-aortic balloon pump and vaso spastic angina. He has also written a book on ECG (Rapid Review of ECG Interpretation).

Outside of his professional work he takes keen interest in sporting activities such as table tennis, plays in the Derbyshire Table Tennis League for the Repton table tennis team.

Qualifications

Dr. Tariq Azeem earned his medical degree from King Edward Medical University in Lahore. Following graduation, he relocated to the UK, where he gained experience as a junior doctor, primarily in the North West of England. His cardiology training commenced at City Hospital Birmingham, where he served as a clinical fellow for two years, before completing his specialist registrar training in cardiology at Glenfield Hospital Leicester. Upon finishing his specialist training, Dr. Azeem was appointed as an Interventional Cardiologist at Royal Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
