About Dr Shouvik Haldar

Dr Shouvik Haldar is a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals, part of Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. He provides expert care for both NHS and private patients with a broad range of heart rhythm disorders and general cardiovascular conditions, combining the latest evidence with a personalised, patient-centred approach.

Dr Haldar graduated from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Medical School (King’s College London), then trained in Adelaide, South Australia before completing postgraduate medical training in Oxford. He undertook specialist cardiology training in the North West Thames Deanery, followed by advanced subspecialty training in cardiac electrophysiology and cardiac implantable electronic devices at the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals. He was subsequently awarded the prestigious Miriam L. Burnett Fellowship at the University of Toronto, Canada, where he received advanced training in complex catheter ablation and device therapy under internationally renowned experts.

Appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist in 2017, Dr Haldar has developed expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardias, ventricular arrhythmias, blackouts, palpitations, inherited rhythm disorders, heart failure, and cardiac device therapy. He performs a high volume of complex catheter ablation procedures and pacemaker, defibrillator, conduction system and cardiac resynchronisation device implantation.

Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Haldar is an active clinical researcher and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London. His research focuses on atrial fibrillation, digital health, wearable technologies, artificial intelligence, and remote cardiac monitoring, with the aim of improving earlier diagnosis, stroke prevention, and personalised care for patients with heart rhythm disorders.

He is also passionate about preventive cardiology, women's cardiovascular health, and empowering patients through education and digital innovation. He recognises that heart disease in women can often present differently and is committed to improving awareness, diagnosis, and access to evidence-based care for female patients.

Nationally, Dr Haldar is recognised for his leadership in cardiovascular education and has held senior roles within the British Cardiovascular Society, helping to shape the education and training of the next generation of cardiologists.

I recently consulted Dr Haldar regarding heart palpitations, and I cannot speak highly enough of the care I received. Dr Haldar was professional, reassuring, and exceptionally knowledgeable. He took the time to listen carefully to my concerns, thoroughly explain the possible causes of my symptoms, and answer every question with patience and clarity. What impressed me most was his ability to make me feel completely at ease during what is a very worrying time. His compassionate approach, combined with his evident expertise, gave me great confidence that I was in the best possible hands. Dr Haldar’s attention to detail, clear communication, and genuine commitment to patient care are truly exceptional. Thanks to his guidance and advice, I left feeling informed, reassured, and confident about the next steps. I would wholeheartedly recommend Dr Haldar to anyone seeking a cardiologist who combines outstanding clinical expertise with kindness, professionalism, and a patient-centred approach. I have been seeing Dr Haldar for around four years. Have always found him to be extremely personable and an excellent listener and communicator. He is a marvellous cardiologist. He is very empathetic and kind and when I have had problems always gives me choices about which treatment I’d prefer to move forward with. I would have no hesitation in recommending him which I have done many times.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Life-Changing Experience – Exceptional Care and Reassurance I was referred to Dr Shouvik Haldar at Harefield Hospital for a second opinion after feeling thoroughly unconvinced by my initial prognosis elsewhere. As someone who is extremely active physically, sports and running are a massive part of my life. Being told by another hospital that I had to completely stop training was devastating, and I was genuinely struggling mentally with that prospect. From the moment I met Dr Haldar, he was incredible. He is not only completely professional, but his vast knowledge and unique ability to explain complex medical matters in plain, simple terms meant the absolute world to me. Crucially, Dr Haldar reassured me that I was free to continue training at a reduced level until he had the chance to review all my results properly, noting that he saw no immediate signs that I needed to stop entirely. That peace of mind alone was invaluable. True to his word, he swiftly arranged every single test and next step he promised. I cannot thank him enough for his kindness, empathy, and expert reassurance when I needed it most. I would highly recommend Dr Haldar to anyone seeking elite cardiac care, and I very much look forward to speaking with him again.
