Dr Vias Markides

Dr Vias Markides, Consultant Cardiologist, currently works at the Royal Brompton Hospital. He sees patients both within the NHS and privately. He is highly specialised in the management of all arrhythmias including complex arrhythmias (complex atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia). He is also very skilled in the implantation of medical devices including pacemakers, ICDs, and devices for cardiac resynchronization.

Dr Vias Markides graduated in 1992 from Imperial College London Medical School with distinction in all subjects, and was awarded the University of London Gold Medal for his outstanding performance. He then went on to do his specialist training in several teaching hospitals throughout London, including St Mary's, St Thomas', and Hammersmith's hospitals. In 2002, he was appointed to his first Consultant Cardiologist role at Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals. During his time there he led the arrhythmia service, which developed into one of the largest services for arrhythmia in the UK.

He took on the role of Director of the Heart Division at the Royal Brompton in 2014, and the additional role of Deputy Medical Director in 2019.

Dr Markides is a passionate educator and is responsible for the teaching of others in his speciality and currently holds the position of Clinical Associate Professor at Imperial College London. He is also an active researcher with a specific interest in the individualised mapping of atrial fibrillation to guide therapy and improve outcomes.
