Dr Shabana Bora is a Consultant Gynaecologist and Fertility Specialist based at the Lister Fertility Clinic. She has experience in managing patients with complications of early pregnancy including recurrent miscarriage, PCOS, endometriosis and low (diminished) ovarian reserve.
She was a Research Fellow at the Lister Fertility Clinic in 2012 before being appointed as Consultant in 2016 and manages fertility patients seeking general advice or support and assisted conception. She has extensive experience in managing patients seeking IVF, ICSI, IUI, egg and sperm donation and fertility preservation (egg freezing).
Dr Bora completed her medical training at Guy's, King's and St Thomas' School of Medicine, London. She attained her core specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in North West London and has worked at several large teaching hospitals throughout her career. She was a research fellow at the University of St George's and Imperial College London.
Dr Bora has many peer-reviewed publications in medical journals and book chapters. She is a member of the British Fertility Society (BFS), ESHRE and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG).
In 2019, she introduced and developed the embryo donation programme, looking to provide options for patients wanting to donate their surplus embryos to assist in achieving families for others. In 2023, she was awarded the 'Fertility Champion' award by the Mariposa Trust, a charity which supports families after pregnancy loss. This was awarded to recognise her work in caring and guiding her patients through the difficult journey of fertility.

Dr Bora helped us navigate, what would normally be a somewhat confusing journey, with optimism. She took the time to personalize our treatment protocol and it is thanks to her and the lovely team of nurses that we are now expecting our first baby.

My experience with Dr. Bora was wonderful, from the beginning she was very clear and patient in explaining my low ovarian reserve condition and encouraged us to test with my own eggs before opting for other options. We both decided to give it a try knowing the success rates and she accompanied us through the process. The test was successful and I am now pregnant, so I am very grateful to Dr. Bora for motivating us to try and for her professionalism throughout the journey.

Dr Bora has always been so kind, empathetic and supportive throughout our very difficult fertility journey. Not only did she provide excellent care, but she always responded quickly to any follow-up questions I ever had - nothing was ever too much. I'm so grateful that she was our doctor and, thanks in no small part to her, we now have our beautiful baby.

I switched to Dr Bora after having been with another consultant for several cycles. Dr Bora really took the time to review my history and file in detail and suggested new medication, which had a much better outcome than I ever expected. Throughout my cycle Dr Bora and her PA were responsive and caring, and I felt very well taken care of. I can highly recommend Dr Bora!

Dr Bora was our nominated consultant when going through IUI/IVF treatment at Lister Hospital. We are so very grateful to have been successful following the first round of IVF and are still overwhelmed by the care and expertise we experienced.

Dr Bora was very clear and straightforward about our treatment options and chances of success. She listened carefully and took on board our thoughts and concerns, and was reassuring where appropriate. When we encountered setbacks, she was both highly empathetic and pragmatic about the way forward. As somebody who was very anxious about the IVF process for various reasons, I really appreciated that Dr Bora went far out of her way to help me feel safe and supported. She is very knowledgeable and experienced and we couldn't trust her professional judgement more.

Overall, I have had an extremely positive experience with Dr. Bora. Within my initial consultation, she was direct and clear regarding options and in this way Dr. Bora arms her patients with information to be able to make the required decisions. Not only is she very experienced, but also shows a great level of sincerity and shows she truly cares for what is best for her patients.
