Dr Swayne is an experienced consultant neurologist who studied medicine at Cambridge University. He was awarded a PhD in neuroscience from UCL and spent a year in the US studying brain plasticity after stroke. He is lead neurologist for the Neurorehabilitation Unit at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery.
He is interested and experienced in all aspects of general neurology including headache, epilepsy, MS and stroke. He has a specialist interest in Neurorehabilitation. Dr Swayne has published many original papers and book chapters on the control of movement by the brain and the role of brain plasticity in post-stroke recovery. He is the author of How to Use a Fork: Stories of Mending the Broken Brain (Picador 2026).
