Dr Michael Koa-Wing, Lead Consultant Cardiologist, currently works at West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust and Imperial College Healthcare in London. He is very experienced in treating and managing all aspects of general cardiology, including chest pain, heart failure, loss of consciousness, palpitations, heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias), and implantable cardiac devices. He has a keen interest in the implantation of a wide range of medical devices including pacemakers, loop recorders, left atrial appendage occluders, defibrillators, and cardiac resynchronisation devices. He can also offer patients several procedures including cardioversions and catheter ablation (supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation, and ventricular tachycardia).
Dr Koa-Wing qualified from his foundation training from Guys’, King’s and St. Thomas’ Medical Schools with distinctions, before undertaking his postgraduate training at St. Mary’s and Hammersmith Hospitals in London. During his training years, he studied abroad at Brigham & Women’s Hospital associated with Harvard Medical School to further develop his skills. He also undertook a research degree focusing on cardiac electrophysiology, which later resulted in a PhD being awarded to him by Imperial College London. His research results on ventricular tachycardia ablation in addition to the development of a 3D mapping system for ablation of complex arrhythmias went on to be trialled in a multicentre clinical trial and is now in clinical use worldwide.
Dr Koa-Wing was later made a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and holds several professional memberships including the British Cardiac Society, the European Society of Cardiology and the British Heart Rhythm Society. He is also an active teacher, holding the position of Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College, London.

Clear, logical, bringing in the facts and presenting thoroughly the next steps and possible outcomes & options. Overall very professional and knowledgeable.
Mike Koa-Wing is an attentive listener; this is the bedrock upon which any constructive consultation is laid. I had ample time to explain my situation and it was evident that he was immediately on top my condition. Dr Koa-Wing produced helpful diagrams to convey my heart's (not!) workings and explained, unambiguously, my options and prognosis. The best interests of Dr Koa-Wing's patients are paramount. By way of example, as a self-funding patient, he recommended that I return to the NHS for the next stage of my treatment; his rationale was faultless. This recommendation saved me a considerable sum of money and, of course, meant he relinquished any resultant private income. I suspect any financial loss is not a big issue, however; unsurprisingly Dr Koa-Wing enjoys a high demand for his services. I have already recommended Dr Koa-Wing to a friend who would, like myself, be very happy to recommend him to others.
I was able to schedule a same-day appointment with Dr Koa-Wing. His expertise and bedside manner were great.

Sympathetic and Professional. gave good explanations of the options open to me
Dr Kao-Wing is an excellent consultant who went out of his way to reassure me.
Everything one could expect or hope for. From the initial consultation when all options were discussed in easily understood terms, through the implantation of pacemaker and follow up consultation. Excellent all round and would certainly recommend to anyone.

Very nice manner , completely clear on his treatment and had every confidence in Mr Koa-Wing , He made sure he was up to date on tests that had been done previously, which I appreciated greatly
