About Dr Laurence Maiden
Dr Laurence Maiden was Chief of Medicine and Emergency Care and is a senior consultant in the Department of Gastroenterology at Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. He is one of two accredited consultant colonoscopists for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program in Tunbridge Wells. He specialises in endoscopy, colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy, enteroscopy of the small bowel and interventional endoscopy (polyp removal).
Dr Maiden has been a consultant at the Tunbridge Wells Hospital since December 2008, developing pathways for the management of patients requiring specialised feeding as lead for Nutrition. He also oversaw the management of all patients with intestinal failure requiring intravenous, total parenteral nutrition (TPN) or ‘artificial feeding'.
He then took on the lead for endoscopy, overseeing the Joint Advisory Group accreditation of the endoscopy units at both Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone hospitals. This led to his tenure as Lead Physician at Tunbridge Wells Hospital in 2011 before being appointed to Clinical Director for Specialist Medicine and Elderly Care.
He has been Chief of Medicine and Emergency Care since 2018 and oversaw 3 directorates, more than 60 consultants, 150 junior doctors and 300 nurses in the Division.

Dr Maiden was very professional throughout my dealings with him, and explained very clearly the results of my endoscopy. And if I had any concerns, he would put my mind at rest, which would stop me feeling anxious.
Very patient and understanding, fitting me in quickly and taking time to explain the procedure and listen to my concerns. For what was quite an intrusive procedure, could not have been made to feel more at ease by both Mr Maiden and his team.
Unfortunately the Doctify meeting didn't work for me so all of our consultations were by phone. I would have preferred to see him on a video call where in person meetings were not possible. Certainly in hospital, face to face, Dr Maiden was very professional and extremely informative.
