Dr Joseph Chacko

Dr Joseph Chacko is a Senior Consultant in Haematology with clinical and laboratory responsibilities including blood transfusion. His specialist interests include myeloproliferative neoplasms, thrombosis, lymphoma and late effects of cancer therapy and stem cell transplantation.

Dr Chacko is involved in clinical research and has been a principal investigator in national and international clinical trials for MDS, MPN, AML, ALL, ITP and venous thrombosis. He is still involved in clinical trials as a sub-investigator.

Dr Chacko has experience in clinical management roles, including Clinical Director and Clinical Governance Lead for Pathology and Cancer Services. Although he has no current management roles, until recently he was a postgraduate educational and clinical supervisor for specialist haematology trainees and general internal medicine trainees.

Dr Chacko continues to deliver lectures in haematology topics to final year medical students of Southampton University and to the Wessex region postgraduate specialist trainees. He is also Visiting Fellow at Bournemouth University and delivers lectures to BMS students.

Dr Chacko's private practice is limited to non-NHS hours at Nuffield Health Bournemouth, where he also provides consultant services to the Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratory both here at and Nuffield Health Wessex.
