I was diagnosed with a very rare type of blood caner called Hairy cell leukaemia variant (splenic B cell lymphoma with prominent nucleoli SBLPN). The diagnosis itself took more than half a year, involving 4 hospitals, both private and NHS hospitals. The challenge did not stop at diagnosis – due to the rareness of this disease, there is still a lack of definitive clinical trials and guidance for treatment globally. Dr. Sanne Lugthart in Bristol, UK has been our beacon of light through the darkest days of our cancer journey. She gave up her own leave to care for us with unwavering dedication and genuine empathy - always seeing things from our perspective and going above and beyond. Just two days before my chemotherapy, she used her annual leave to coordinate across hospitals and secure a vital medication for us - an act that moved my family deeply, bringing my daughter to tears. In the morning of day 2 of my chemotherapy, blood test results showed miracle response to the treatment, and I haven’t experienced any side effects so far – thanks for Dr Sanne Lugthart and the treatment team’s outstanding care. I am so thankful for the awesome service l receive during the ‘watch & wait’ appointments. Dr Sanne Lugthart has a natural skill set and patient approach that immediately makes you feel at ease. The discussion on the most recent laboratory results are always concise and explained in terms that l understand. I never feel rushed during my appointments and the time taken to listen to my concerns, are most welcome.

Overall my experience with Dr. Lughurt has been very positive. Dr Lughurt explored a variety of treatments options. Im grateful to Dr Lughurt because she advocated for my Car-t therapy and other treatments. She accommodated suggestions from the Hospital Liaison Committee (HLC) and exploring varieties of treatments options with regards to blood product support. For example Erythropoietin (EPO) for blood and Avatrombopag for Platelet Dr Lughurt always listened respectfully, attentively and patiently to my religious views.

Very informative and supportive, I was given the answers to the questions I asked and felt the overall session was very good ,helped obviously by the fact that I am in remission. Hooray .
