About Dr Jonathan Pitts Crick

Dr Jonathan Pitts Crick is a consultant cardiologist based in Bristol. He has over 46 years of medical experience and over 22 years of specialist experience in cardiology. He is a member of the British Cardiovascular Society, Heart Rhythm UK and AF.

Dr Pitts Crick underwent his medical training at King's College London and qualified 1973. He also completed a doctorate in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Sussex in 1984. He trained in cardiology at the RSCH, Brighton, Guy's Hospital and the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital, London and was appointed consultant cardiologist at The Bristol Royal Infirmary and Bristol Heart Institute in 1989.

He has retired this year from clinical work but continues in research and education.

Dr Pitts Crick has over 30 scientific publications and has presented his work both nationally and internationally at congresses and conferences; they include peer reviewed research papers on medical treatment of angina and arrhythmias, coronary intervention techniques, pacemakers and ICDs and ablation. His present research interest is in the mechanism of chronic illness and non-pharmacological relief of breathlessness.

His clinical experience has shown him that a major cause of disability for heart patients is not understanding the nature of their disease, why it is affecting them, how it can be diagnosed, the options for treatment and the future outlook. He is therefore writing short illustrated books explaining these in sufficient detail to allow fully informed discussion between patients and their GPs and cardiologists, one covering each specific cardiac condition.
