Mr Dorin Dumitru

Mr Dorin Dumitru is an accomplished Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgeon at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. With over 2,000 total breast surgical procedures under his belt, he offers the full range of contemporary breast cancer surgical treatments, including complex therapeutic mammoplasty, symmetrization surgery, breast reduction, and immediate sub-pectoral and pre-pectoral implant-based breast reconstruction with the use of acellular dermal matrices.

His expertise lies in oncoplastic breast conservation surgery, local flaps, risk-reducing surgery, and breast reconstruction with implants and lipomodelling. Beyond breast cancer treatment, he has a dedicated interest in breast aesthetics, including breast reduction, breast lifting, breast augmentation, gynaecomastia surgery, and gender reassignment surgery.

Mr Dumitru obtained his basic medical qualification from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Cluj-Napoca and was awarded a CCST in 2015. He has completed three separate Oncoplastic Fellowships at leading institutions, including Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, London, The Royal County Hospital, Hampshire, Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, and the Royal Marsden Hospital, London. He also holds the degree of Master of Surgery from the University of East Anglia and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and European Board of Breast Surgery.

Mr Dumitru has a keen interest in research, especially in areas relating to the development of new technologies and devices for breast reconstruction. He is the author of several publications, including a book chapter in the field of oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery, in several prestigious journals such as Future Oncology, The Lancet Oncology, Annals of Surgery, and open-access journals.

In addition to his clinical work and research activities, he is committed to teaching medical students and junior doctors and is a designated Clinical Tutor for 3rd-year medical students at Hull York Medical School. He has also undertaken self-funded visits to Nairobi, Kenya, as part of the International Forum of the Association of Breast Surgery, to support the development of breast surgery and the implementation of guidelines for managing breast diseases in lower and middle-income countries.
