Dr David O'Brien

Dr David O'Brien is a highly skilled Consultant Interventional Cardiologist with extensive expertise in General (Internal) Medicine. Dedicated to delivering comprehensive and compassionate care, he specialises in the assessment, diagnosis, and long-term management of a wide range of cardiovascular conditions and internal medical disorders. Dr O'Brien works closely with each patient to establish individualised diagnostic and treatment strategies, ensuring clear communication and reassuring guidance at every stage of care.

His primary clinical focus spans both general cardiology and specialist interventional procedures. Dr O'Brien routinely performs diagnostic cardiac catheterisation, coronary angiography, and percutaneous coronary intervention (angioplasty and stenting), utilising advanced techniques such as radial access to enhance patient comfort and post-procedure recovery. His broader clinical practice covers the management of coronary and ischaemic heart disease, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, and complex hypertension, supported by comprehensive diagnostics including transthoracic echocardiogram scans, ambulatory ECG monitoring, 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, and cardiovascular risk assessments.

Dr O'Brien completed his primary medical degree (MBChB) at the University of Dundee before undertaking postgraduate research leading to a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) at the University of Leicester. He subsequently undertook specialised fellowship training in interventional cardiology at the University of Alberta in Canada. A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London (FRCP) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), Dr O'Brien holds active professional memberships with the General Medical Council, the British Medical Association, the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society, and the British Society of Echocardiography.
