Prof. Dr David Lockington MB BCh BAO (Hons) FRCOphth PhD has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist based at Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology, Glasgow, UK since January 2014 following sub-specialist Cornea, Cataract and Anterior Segment fellowship training in Auckland, New Zealand. He has an active interest in promoting excellence in education, achieving over 120 peer-reviewed publications and has received 13 awards for his practical research and lively oral presentations. David is actively involved in cataract and corneal teaching as an invited speaker, organiser and trainer at many national and international meetings.
David is a Visiting Professor in Ophthalmology at VUB, Brussels, the co-editor of EyeNews magazine and was honoured by inclusion in “The Ophthalmologist” magazine’s Top 100 Ophthalmologists Power List for 2024. During the ‘75th anniversary of the IOL’ international celebrations in London in November 2024, David was inaugurated as the President of the UK and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (UKISCRS).
Dr Lockington sees self-pay patients in addition to insured patients at the Nuffield Glasgow Hospital.
His areas of expertise revolve around his sub-speciality training in Cornea, Cataract and Anterior Segment, including:
•Cataract surgery (including premium IOLs, toric IOLs, mini-monovision)
•Complex cataract surgery, including secondary IOL placement following complicated surgeries and Anterior Segment reconstruction
•Corneal Transplantation (PK, DALK, DSAEK, DMEK)
•Yag Laser Capsulotomy for capsule opacification
•Minor eyelid procedures including cyst/chalazion removal
While referrals from GPs or optometrists are preferred, Dr Lockington is happy to see self-referrals too.
