Dr David Howells

As a member of the Medical Cannabis Clinicians Society and a founding member of Cannabis Clinic Cardiff, Dr Dave Howells is a leading voice in the use of cannabis-based medicinal products (CBMPs) for mental health treatment. With over 19 years of experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist and a specialist in Old Age Psychiatry, Dr Howells has seen firsthand the benefits that some patients experience from CBMPs.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Howells also works as a Second Opinion Appointed Doctor for Health Inspectorate Wales, ensuring that patients detained in psychiatric hospitals under the Mental Health Act, 1983 receive the best possible care and treatment.

Dr Howells is a strong advocate for the standardisation and quality assurance of CBMPs, so that patients can have access to safe and effective therapies for their conditions. He encourages patients to enrol in the Drug Science TWENTY21 registry, which records patient experiences with CBMPs to inform future prescribing.
