Dr Chike Onwuneme

Dr Chike Onwuneme is a Consultant Paediatrician and Consultant Neonatologist who specialises in the care of newborns, premature infants, and critically ill children. He delivers compassionate, evidence-based care to young patients and their families, ensuring that infants receive tailored support during their most vulnerable early stages of life. Dr Onwuneme is dedicated to building strong, reassuring relationships with parents while maintaining the highest clinical standards in newborn and child health.

He completed his foundational medical training with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree, subsequently undergoing extensive higher postgraduate training in child health and neonatal care. In 2015, Dr Onwuneme was awarded his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from University College Dublin, where his research investigated Vitamin D and immunomodulation in paediatric sepsis. Committed to academic excellence and medical training, he also holds a Master of Science (MSc) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, and is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (MRCPI).

Dr Onwuneme's clinical interests cover a broad spectrum of neonatology and paediatric care, with particular expertise in neonatal sepsis, hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy, and the management of premature infants. He actively participates in multicentre clinical trials and research projects focused on improving respiratory support, nutritional interventions, and long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes for high-risk neonates. In his academic role as an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer, he contributes significantly to educating the next generation of medical professionals while continuing to advance clinical practices in child health.
