Dr Catherine Atkin

Dr Catherine Atkin is a highly accomplished Consultant Physician specialising in General (Internal) Medicine and Acute Medicine. With a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care, she focuses on the rapid assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients presenting with urgent medical conditions. Her clinical work is characterised by a reassuring and thorough approach, ensuring that patients receiving emergency or acute medical care are managed safely and effectively.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Atkin is actively involved in medical research and education. She holds a position as an Assistant Clinical Professor, where she contributes to the training of future medical professionals. Her clinical interests and research focus heavily on Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), ambulatory care pathways, and the management of acute respiratory infections, such as community-acquired pneumonia and influenza. She has also undertaken significant work in evaluating acute oncology services and risk-stratification models to improve patient outcomes during acute hospital admissions.

Dr Atkin completed her primary medical training, obtaining her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree. She subsequently pursued advanced academic research, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Birmingham in 2019. Dedicated to advancing the standards of acute medical care on a national level, she is an active member of the Society for Acute Medicine, where she serves as the Benchmarking Audit Lead.
