Mr Branimir Penev

Mr. Branimir Penev is a Consultant Urological Surgeon currently practicing within the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. He specialises in Endourology and Laser treatments for prostate and kidney stone diseases, with broad experience in General Urology.

Mr. Penev completed his surgical and urology training both in Europe and the UK. He holds fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the European Board of Urology, and the National Board of Urology. He is an active member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons, the European Association of Urology, the Société Internationale d'Urologie, and the American Urology Association.

Throughout his career, Mr. Penev has subspecialised in Andrology, the management of urinary incontinence, and has performed over a thousand laser prostate surgeries (HoLEP). He is passionate about research, having published numerous papers in the field of Endourology, and is regularly invited as a presenter and faculty member at national and international meetings. He also serves as a trainer and examiner for junior doctors.

Mr. Penev’s medical journey includes specialist training at the University Hospitals Sofia in Bulgaria, where he first trained, before subspecialising in Endourology in Switzerland and Andrology at University College London. He further consolidated his expertise in the West of Scotland Urology Training Programme and at St Bartholomew’s and Newham University Hospitals in London.

A key area of his expertise is in Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP), for which he receives tertiary referrals from other centres. At Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, Mr. Penev pioneered an outpatient service for the diagnosis and management of urinary incontinence and has led masterclasses on intravesical Botox treatments.

Mr. Penev has an academic focus, with significant teaching experience, including lecturing for the MCh in Surgery and Urology at Canterbury Christ Church University. He has been awarded the UK CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) in Urology, recognising his high level of expertise in the field.
