Dr Bode Ensam is a well experienced Consultant Cardiologist and Cardiac Electrophysiologist at The Priory Hospital and The Harborne Hospital. He has specialist expertise in inherited cardiac conditions (ICC), sudden arrhythmic death syndromes (SADS), sports cardiology, and the management of arrhythmias in pregnancy.
Graduating from Warwick Medical School in 2007, he undertook general medical training in Dorset and Hampshire, becoming a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 2011. He secured a competitive national training number in Cardiology, underwent training in the West Midlands, and pursued a clinical and research fellowship in ICC and sports cardiology at St George’s Hospital, London, under the guidance of Professor Elijah Behr.
At St George’s, Dr Ensam developed expertise in rare electrical cardiac conditions such as Brugada Syndrome, Long-QT syndrome (LQTS), Catecholaminergic Polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia (CPVT), unexplained cardiac arrest, and recurrent syncope. As a Cardiac Risk in the Young UK (CRY-UK) fellow, he gained further experience in the cardiovascular assessment of elite-level athletes. He was fortunate to receive research funding in excess of £300,000 from the British Heart Foundation to study Brugada Syndrome and the assessment of victims of sudden unexplained cardiac death and their families.
Returning to the West Midlands, Dr Ensam underwent further training in advanced invasive cardiac electrophysiology. After completing his cardiology training, he spent a further year as a senior EP fellow at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, focusing on the invasive treatment of arrhythmic disorders, performing almost 300 catheter ablation procedures and 150 pacemaker/defibrillator implants in a single year. He was appointed as a consultant cardiologist with expertise in cardiac electrophysiology and inherited cardiac conditions at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, in September 2022.
In addition to a busy clinical role, Dr Ensam is active in both research and teaching, having published several papers in high-impact journals and presenting his work at international conferences and meetings.
