Dr Babar Vaqas

Last month, my husband, Owen, was diagnosed with a large olfactory groove meningioma and was referred by the neurologist who provided that diagnosis to Mr Babar Vaqas for neurosurgical opinion. With great kindness & care, Mr Vaqas helped us to begin to understand the pathway of treatment available to Owen. Over the course of Owen’s treatment journey, of all the many clinicians that we have encountered along the way, Mr Vaqas has stood out to us for the compassion with which he met us on that day. Ultimately, Owen received his treatment via the NHS but we remain deeply grateful to Mr Vaqas for the information that he shared with us during our appointment with him; it helped us enormously then and has continued to help us over these past few weeks with Owen’s surgery and his post-op recovery. There is a wonderful podcast episode on YouTube hosted by Sam Suri, brain tumour patient and ambassador for the Tessa Jowell Foundation, in which he interviews Mr Vaqas. I would urge you to find it and have a listen. In it, he speaks of what it means to him to be a neurosurgeon and what it is that motivates him in his work. In it he says “it is my humanity that drives my intellectual rigour”; we saw this and we felt this when we met with him and we were so grateful for it.

My recent visit was a brain operation by Mr. Vaqas and his team. They were really nice and told me to think about it before I agreed. The surgery was successful and I couldn't speak highly about him & his team. He's a great asset to the hospital and I'd always speak highly about him.

I cannot recommend Dr. Vaqas highly enough. I accompanied my uncle through his treatment, and from the very beginning, I was extremely impressed by the level of professionalism, care, and attention he received. Dr. Vaqas was incredibly professional, approachable, and patient. He took the time to explain everything in detail, and whenever my uncle or our family had questions, he was more than happy to explain things again and again without any hesitation. He made sure we fully understood the procedure, what to expect, and what would be involved before the operation. This gave my uncle and our entire family a great deal of confidence and reassurance. The operation itself was handled with the utmost professionalism, and the post-operative care has been absolutely amazing. Dr. Vaqas has continued to provide excellent support and guidance throughout my uncle's recovery, and his attention to detail and genuine concern for his patient's wellbeing really stands out. As a family member, it was incredibly reassuring to know that my uncle was in such capable and caring hands. Dr. Vaqas truly goes above and beyond for his patients, and we are extremely grateful for everything he has done. I would wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Vaqas to anyone looking for a highly professional, knowledgeable, caring, and compassionate doctor. An outstanding doctor and an absolute credit to his profession.

My experience with Mr Vaqas has been absolutely fantastic from the start when meeting him, he’s been caring, kind and supportive of explaining everything from my condition, procedure and outcomes post surgery. Having gone through such a difficult and challenging time, I’ve always felt safe and cared for throughout because of Mr Vaqas. I couldn’t have asked for a better surgeon. Mr Vaqas spends the time to go through all my questions and worries and I leave lighter and more confident after every consultation, knowing I’m in great hands. EXCEPTIONAL, Holistic and Patient centred I had consultation with Mr Babar Vaqas, regarding a very big disc prolapse and nerve impingement causing debilitating sciatica that has been significantly effecting the quality of my life including my work and causing progressive weakness in my foot. He is an incredible neurosurgeon. I cannot recommend him highly enough. From the very start, his approach was deeply caring, holistic, and completely patient-centred. He listened intently to all of my concerns and thoroughly asked about my symptoms, making me feel genuinely heard. He then provided a clear explanation of my Lower spine’s MRI scan, taking the time to ensure I understood exactly what was happening in my spine and precisely why surgery is required. He was the first doctor to explain me why my lower back of 4-5 weeks duration, gradually reduced and changed into debilitating sciatica pain in leg. What impressed me most was his dedication to getting me the best possible outcome. Recognising the specifics of my case, he immediately arranged an urgent referral to a specialist spinal surgeon who deals specifically with minimally invasive spinal surgery to treat disc prolapse. He made me aware of what symptoms to look for in case of cord compression/cauda equina. His professionalism, excellent communication, and compassionate care has given me complete peace of mind during a very stressful time. A truly outstanding and an amazing consultant.

Mr Vaqas was exceptional in our meeting today. Professional, kind, empathetic and clearly a fantastic Dr and a lovely man. He made sure we fully understood the situation and explained our options in great detail. We finally have clarity and hope after a very long time, thank you.
