Dr Anna-May Long

Dr Anna-May Long is a dedicated Consultant Paediatric Surgeon specialising in general paediatric surgery and paediatric surgical oncology. She provides comprehensive surgical care for infants, children, and young people, managing a broad spectrum of congenital and acquired surgical conditions. With a compassionate, family-centred approach, Dr Long ensures that young patients and their parents feel thoroughly supported, reassured, and informed throughout every stage of diagnosis, treatment, and post-operative care.

Dr Long's main clinical interests encompass paediatric surgical oncology, neonatal surgery, and emergency paediatric surgical care. She holds expertise in managing complex conditions such as abdominal wall defects, congenital duodenal obstruction, anorectal malformations, and acute appendicitis, alongside performing specialised operations for paediatric solid tumours. Her clinical practice focuses on optimising both short-term surgical outcomes and long-term quality of life for infants and children, incorporating parental expertise and experience into care planning and research.

Dr Long earned her undergraduate medical degree (MBBS) alongside an intercalated Bachelor of Science with honours. She undertook specialist training in paediatric surgery, completing a Postgraduate Diploma and attaining Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Paediatric Surgery. In addition, Dr Long holds a Doctorate of Philosophy (DPhil) in Population Health, with doctoral research focused on population-based studies and long-term outcomes for babies born with abdominal wall defects. She maintains an active role in clinical research, outcome studies, and professional surgical associations.
