Dr Vanezis is an interventional cardiologist who prides himself on delivering high quality, timely and patient centred care. His NHS practice is at the Trent Cardiac Centre in Nottingham where he is the catheter laboratory lead. He sees patients privately at both the Spire and The Park Hospital in Nottingham.
He treats coronary artery disease with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) using state of the art technology and adhering to contemporary evidenced based practice. His particular interest is treating complex disease including chronic total occlusions (arteries that have been blocked for a long period of time). He performs more than 98 percent of all such procedures through the wrist and has very low complication rates. He has been invited to perform complex angioplasty cases live at national meetings and has taken part in guideline changing clinical research trials.
As well as treating coronary artery disease and chest pain, Dr Vanezis also offer investigations and management for breathlessness, swollen ankles, heart failure, dizzy spells, faints/blackouts, palpitations, microvascular angina, coronary spasm, arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation, autonomic dysregulation syndromes such as POTS as well as offering ‘heart check-ups’.
He grew up in London and Glasgow and obtained his medical degree from the University of Edinburgh and his PhD from the University of Leicester. He spent a year at the CK Hui Heart centre in Edmonton, Canada where he obtained a fellowship in complex coronary intervention. Dr Vanezis has published widely in the field of ischaemic conditioning and has designed and run clinical trials. His research profile can be found at www.researchgate.net/profile/Andrew-Vanezis
Dr Vanezis has a passion for medical education and training the next generation of doctors as well as allied healthcare professionals. He was voted “Best Interventional Cardiology Trainer” for 2023 by the British Junior Cardiovascular Association (BJCA). In the quest to better treat patients with refractory angina, Dr Vanezis has setup the first Coronary Sinus Reducer Device service in the East Midlands (a novel treatment for patients with severe angina where stents and/or bypass surgery are no longer an option; see shockwavemedical.com for more details). He has introduced full catheter lab based assessment for patients with suspected microvascular angina (INOCA/ANOCA) and coronary spasm. He has also recently developed a simulation programme within the catheter labs in Nottingham to improve team working and clinical skills for all staff which has received excellent feedback and recent won an award at the British Cardiovascular Society (BCS) Emerging Leaders Programme. In addition he is a faculty member of the Academy of Forensic Medical Sciences (AFMS) and an Advance Life Support (ALS) instructor.
He is married to a busy local GP. He is a keen gardener and enjoys running and playing tennis. He is also an avid reader and enjoys travelling and cooking.

Dr Andrew Vanezis ,was very welcoming attentive and listened to my issues that I needed to discuss. The advise and responses I received were well considered clear and put into context my way forward .Overall I found the consultation excellent .
Made a private appointment for my mother who has serious breathing problems he was very nice explained what he was doing and what to do next he was polite friendly. Looked at my mum's recent chest x-ray showed us her enlarged heart and lungs, which explained a little to us he did ECG and said he was getting her information from another hospital to see what she has had done so far to give him idea of what my mum has had done up to now. We found him easy to understand and what happens next. We wanted second opinion to help her as this has been going on long time. She will be having a scan which hopefully may give us more idea to see if anything can be done to help her breathing and dizziness. Overall very happy with first visit
Andrew Vanezis is a true professional. He has excellent bedside manner that runs along side his wealth of knowledge. He will always be mine and my familles go to cardiologist. If the uk healthcare had more Mr Vanezis this country would be in a better place. He has my gratitude forever, and my praise for him will never stop.
Excellent experience. Doctor Andrew Vanezis explained everything perfectly. Just explaining everything and putting my mind at rest after many years of chasing explanations has been worth its weight in gold. I believe just removing that piece of stress from worry is invaluable. Looking forward to getting tests completed and moving on with life. Many thanks
Very helpful and informative consultation The doctor was reassuring and answered my questions thoroughly
Overall my experience was excellent however the one point when I've made the appointment I was asked who my medical practical practical practice Was which I gave I spoke to my medical practices which was Ancaster and Caythorpe medical practice and asked them to pass on the necessary Tests I've recently had Unfortunately this didn't happen and when I arrived Dr Venis I didn't know why I'd come which was a bit of a setback . Otherwise I think we progressed as well as we possibly could under the circumstances
Following my recent hospital admission I needed a clear explanation of my symptoms and what possible treatment options could be. Dr Vanezis provided this and I left with a good understanding of what to expect. My medication was also adjusted to the appropriate dose for my condition.
