About Dr. Andrew Claridge

Dr Claridge has been a gastroenterologist at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon since 2014.  He is a board member of the MRCP part 2 exam at the Royal College of Physicians and member of the European Specialty Examination in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (ESEGH) Examining Board. 

Dr Claridge was clinical lead for gastroenterology from 2015 – 2022. Training Program Director for Gastroenterology for the Severn Deanery 2022 - 2025, and  West of
England Clinical Research Specialist Lead  2019 – 2025. 

Dr Claridge graduated from Manchester in 1999 and undertook training in New Zealand and Australia. He travelled widely as a junior doctor, completing a post graduate degree in expedition medicine with an interest in travelling with chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. 

After settling into specialist training in Wessex DR Claridge focused on disorders of the lower gastrointestinal tract and completed a PhD in the role of microRNAs (a type of DNA) in inflammatory Bowel Disease. I am a keen teacher and have a MSc in education. I believe passionately in self-improvement and encourage patients to understand and manage their own illnesses. I practice in all areas of gastroenterology specifically symptoms relating to the gastrointestinal tract such as disorders of bowel habit, malabsorption and digestion, anaemia and abdominal discomfort.

  • Bleeding and injection therapies, dilations, polyp detection and removal
