About Mr Alexander Leggate
Mr Alexander Leggate is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, with specialist expertise in complex spinal surgery, neuro-oncology, and neurotrauma. He was appointed in 2020 following neurosurgical training in Manchester, which included a Royal College of Surgeons-approved Neuro-Oncology Fellowship. He also completed a complex spine and cranial fellowship at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia.
Mr Leggate is the Neuro-Trauma Lead for the East Midlands and Deputy Head of Service for the Neurosurgery Department at Queen’s Medical Centre.
His clinical practice encompasses the full spectrum of spinal pathology across the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. He has a particular interest in minimally invasive spinal surgery and spinal pain management, including image-guided injections.
In neuro-oncology, Mr Leggate performs complex cranial procedures, including awake craniotomies and surgeries using intra-operative neurophysiology, ultrasound, and 5-ALA fluorescence guidance. He also offers endoscopic-assisted cranial surgery.
He actively contributes to education and training as a member of the Neurosurgery Panel of Question Writers for the FRCS (Neurosurgery) examination. Mr Leggate has presented his research at national and international conferences, receiving multiple awards for his work.

Very knowledgable and nothing felt rushed. Explained everything to me in detail and talked me through my scans. A lovely man with an excellent attitude towards me. Put my mind at ease massively and now feel so much better about my ongoing treatment.
Back surgery. Walked in with extreme pain. Back operation and walked out without any pain or discomfort Mr Leggate was fantastic in pre operation care and explanation. On the day of the operation he was very reassuring. Post operation visited me twice in twelve hours. Extremely professional, friendly and reassuring. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
