Dr Akshay Shah

Dr Akshay Shah is a highly experienced Consultant Anaesthetist who provides expert care across perioperative medicine, critical care, and general anaesthesia. Dedicated to patient wellbeing and safety, Dr Shah works alongside specialist medical and surgical teams to deliver individualised anaesthetic care tailored to each patient's specific needs. He is passionate about reassuring patients, explaining procedure options clearly, and ensuring a calm and comfortable clinical experience before, during, and after surgical interventions.

Dr Shah completed his medical education at the University of Nottingham, graduating with a Bachelor of Medical Sciences with Honours and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 2009. He pursued higher specialist training in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine, later earning a Master of Science and a Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Oxford. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and a Member of the Royal College of Physicians. Dr Shah also contributes to clinical governance, medical research, and education, holding memberships with professional bodies such as the Association of Anaesthetists and the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, and serving as an Editor for prominent peer-reviewed medical publications.

In addition to his general clinical work, Dr Shah possesses specialised expertise in perioperative optimisation, patient blood management, intravenous iron therapies, and the diagnosis and management of iron deficiency and anaemia in surgical and critically ill patients. He is actively involved in clinical trial research aimed at enhancing recovery following major surgery and critical illness.
