He is skilled in treating complex gallstone disease (cholecystectomy), and performing groin and abdominal wall hernia repair, and specialises in laparoscopic, liver and pancreatic surgery. He has a specialist interest in investigating and treating all benign and cancerous disorders of the liver, pancreas and biliary-tract.
After qualifying from Imperial College London in 2003, he went on to gain an MSc in General Surgical Practice from the University of Kent in 2011, before returning to Imperial College London, where he was awarded a PhD in 2014 for his work on complex gene interactions in pancreatic cancer.
He underwent basic and higher surgical training in London and Surrey, and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2018. He advanced his surgical skills training in laparoscopic / robotic HPB surgery at the Hammersmith and Royal Marsden Hospitals, and in liver transplantation at the Royal-Free Hospital, London. During his training he also undertook several international observerships to HPB units in both the USA (Johns Hopkins; University of Louisville) and Europe (Heidelberg, Germany; AMC, Amsterdam) to gain further experience in his field.
Mr Frampton is extremely passionate about research, and aims to translate new discoveries directly into improved patient care. He is one of the most knowledgeable specialists in his field and has won numerous awards for his research including the ASGBI Moynihan prize, the Sir James Fraser Travelling Fellowship and the Hunterian Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
He currently serves as the Vice Chancellor's Fellow and Senior Lecturer in Surgical Oncology at University of Surrey where he leads a laboratory group and currently supervises BSc, MD(Res) and PhD students.
His current research includes investigating the molecular aspects of pancreatic, liver and biliary-tract cancers, including the development of clinically useful biomarkers and targeted anti-cancer treatments; understanding the tumour microenvironment and microbiome; and deciphering mechanisms of metastasis (cancer spread), topics on which he regularly publishes his findings in peer-reviewed journals. Indeed, he has published >120 research articles and has presented his findings both nationally and internationally.
Mr Frampton's research is at the "cutting-edge" and consequently he offers a highly analytical and evidence-based approach for his patients.

Prof. Adam Frampton provides professional, friendly, clear, reassuring, and caring patient interactions. Patients highlight his expertise for gallbladder removal, various hernia repairs, and complex liver surgeries such as Whipple procedures. His detailed explanations, effective communication, and thorough pre-operative and post-operative care garner praise, resulting in successful operations and quick recoveries with significant patient reassurance. The most common surgical interventions address gallbladder conditions and hernia repairs, using laparoscopic key-hole techniques.
An absolutely amazing experience under the care of Professor Frampton. From diagnosis through surgery and after care, everything was discussed in detail and clearly explained. Professor Frampton has a wonderfully calm and warm manner. He is incredibly professional and caring. My procedure was not straight forward and presented him with a challenge but he did an incredible job and my recovery was almost immediate. I can thoroughly recommend Professor Frampton for his knowledge, great skill and wonderful personal manner. It was a pleasure to be treated by him.
I cannot recommend Prof. Frampton highly enough. He is clear, reassuring, and always took the time to thoroughly answer every question I had. I felt completely confident in his care, and am very grateful for everything he has done for me.
My hernia operation was dealt with excellently from initial consultation to recovery and post op check. I felt that Professor Frampton understood my concerns and priorities and dealt with them efficiently and promptly. I would recommend his services.
In June 2026 I had a double hernia operation with Pro Adam Frampton. The first time we met at the initial consultation he was very professional and reassuring, he was also very patient with me as I asked several question about the procedure ,The operation went very well, on the day he was extremely approachable again answering all my concerns. I would not hesitate to recommend him to my friends and family. I also must say that his secretary is one of the best I have dealt with. Many Thanks, Terence A
I had a partial Gallbladder removal on the NHS following issues with an infection and Gallstones, We needed to reach out to Professor Frampton because our NHS local hospital was unable to undertake a further operation to completely remove the remaining gall bladder as remaining gall stones were still causing pain. We were referred to an HPB centre but understood the wait to be lengthy. We reached out to Professor Frampton via our insurance provider and had our initial consultation within a week and following some imaging tests we had a follow up appointment where the imaging was explained and our options clearly identified to us. My surgery was scheduled within weeks and a robotic gallbladder removal was completed without complication and i am recovering well. I cannot praise the level of service highly enough and was kept informed at every stage. The level of aftercare i received was also exceptional including follow up
Professor Frampton gave clear & detailed information about the operation & options. He has a professional manner but still in a calm way that makes you feel comfortable. The whole procedure went seamlessly. Including with pleasant hospital staff who were always nearby.
I am incredibly grateful for the care I received. Everything was explained clearly, the surgery was a great success, and my recovery has been much better than I expected. I would highly recommend Prof. Frampton to anyone needing gallbladder surgery.
I first contacted Prof Frampton regarding an umbilical hernia that developed after my gall bladder removal surgery ten years ago. Despite being about to leave for holiday, he returned my missed call the same day, discussed my case over the phone, and arranged a prompt pre op assessment and surgery date through his secretary. His explanation of the condition, the surgical plan, risks, and recovery was clear and reassuring. The operation on 13 June went smoothly, and although I experienced significant bruising afterwards, Prof Frampton was exceptionally responsive, answering calls and emails immediately and guiding me through the post operative phase. At my two week review I was already feeling much better, with only some expected swelling remaining. Overall, Prof Frampton has been attentive, thorough, and supportive throughout, and I felt very well cared for from the first interaction to recovery.
Professor Frampton and his team have given me a great level of care throughout. The initial consultation and operation was clearly explained. I have been impressed by the professional level of care and attention to detail from Professor Frampton, his surgical team, the Medical secretary, and Nursing staff from start to finish. The procedure was clearly and simply explained before the operation and I would thoroughly recommend Professor Framptons expertise.
