Dr Marinos Pericleous is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with dual accreditation in Hepatology and General Internal Medicine. He currently holds a substantive consultant appointment at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust.

He undertook his undergraduate medical training at University College London and the Royal Free Medical School in London. His postgraduate training provided comprehensive experience across the full spectrum of gastroenterology, including complex luminal disease, clinical nutrition, gastrointestinal malignancy, inflammatory bowel disease, and advanced hepatology. He worked as a Senior Clinical Fellow at the ENETS Centre of Excellence at the Royal Free Hospital, developing specialist expertise in the diagnosis and management of neuroendocrine tumours of the gastrointestinal tract.

During higher specialist training, Dr Pericleous trained at the internationally renowned Sheila Sherlock Liver Centre and Liver Transplant Unit at the Royal Free Hospital. He further consolidated his expertise through clinical posts at the specialist liver unit at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, and as a Visiting Fellow at the Yale–New Haven Liver Center in the United States.

Dr Pericleous has a strong academic and research profile. He completed doctoral research (PhD) in liver disease and has presented his work at regional, national, and international scientific meetings. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications spanning gastroenterology, hepatology, nutrition, and gastrointestinal oncology, including papers published in high-impact journals such as The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology, The Lancet Public Health, and Gut. He has also contributed several book chapters and currently serves as Principal Investigator on multiple clinical trials in his field.

In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr Pericleous is a fully accredited endoscopist persistently exceeding national JAG quality standards. We runs weekly diagnostic, therapeutic and emergency endoscopy lists. He is also an accredited endoscopy trainer, and is actively involved in the training and supervision of endoscopy trainees. Dr Pericleous put me at my ease taking interest in me as a person, not as someone on a conveyor belt of patients. His ideas on managing my situation were practical and are already in hand.

I had the most wonderful and reassuring consultation with Dr Pericleous. He put me at my ease right from the outset. Being told that you may have cancer is a most disturbing and dispiriting experience. However, Dr Pericleous explained everything clearly and succinctly using terms that were very easy to understand.

My whole hospital experience at Royal Surrey was excellent. Dr. Pericleous kept me informed throughout my stay and ensured I knew the steps required in my treatment plan. He reached out to my previous long time consultant at a London hospital and updated me on conversations that were ongoing. I was admitted to Royal Surrey through A&E and all my medical concerns were dealt with. I liked Dr. Pericleous’s mantra -we have a plan for you -one day at a time. Thank you for the first class professionalism and expertise.
