I wanted to discuss the possibility or desirability of a hip replacement, given that I have arthritis, and genuinely had no preference regarding whether to have the operation or not. He examined my mobility, discussed the situation with me, the pros and cons of operating or not, and concluded that I should continue with physiotherapy and not undergo the operation. Throughout the conversation, he came over as thoroughly professional, caring, and in command of his area of expertise. He gave me confidence in his decision.

Knee Surgery

I consulted David Elson via BUPA after a suffering a knee injury which resulted in pain in the knee whenever there was any pressure or impact put through the knee. The injury was significant enough to halt all running & cycling which form the basis of my 6 days per week exercise routine. I explained my goal was to return to pre-injury levels of pain free cycling & running as quickly as possible. He provided a clear pathway forwards at the initial consultation including immediate x-rays, physio and a follow up MRI scan to rule out some potential causes and establish the nature of the problem. The MRI scan confirmed his expected diagnosis of a partially torn medial meniscus. An arthoscopy procedure was booked and carried out within 10 weeks of the initial consultation. The potential risks & benefits were clearly outlined throughout the consultations. Follow-up physio with was arranged post surgery as well as a follow up consultation. The details of the surgery were discussed post-surgery both on the day of the procedure and at the follow up consultation. I was assured that he was confident there was no reason I should not be able to return to pre-injury exercise levels and normal activities. I am now 7 weeks post surgery and have resumed both running and cycling (pain free) and am now building towards pre-injury exercise levels. In summary, David Elson is very easy to get on with, very experienced in his field and answers any questions or concerns directly and concisely. I have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone with knee problems.
