About Mr David Elson
Dr. Elson is a consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon, specialising in complex knee surgery, particularly for younger patients. He qualified in 2000 from Edinburgh University medical school before completing his surgical training in Edinburgh, Manchester and Newcastle, with fellowship training in Cardiff and Hampshire.
Dr. Elson's clinical practice focuses on knee surgery and general trauma presentations. He has extensive experience in providing creative alternative solutions to younger adults with knee problems who prefer not to opt for joint replacements. To do this he utilises the best contemporary surgical strategies to correct malalignment, ligament injuries, cartilage and meniscal deficiencies and other preservative measures.
His specialty and experience make him excellent educator and he regularly speaks at national and international conferences. He is the chairman of the United Kingdom Knee Osteotomy Registry which is dedicated to improving outcomes for knee osteotomy patients.

Having struggled for years with a knee problem, and unable to walk far without pain, Mr Elson advised of surgical options, with a refreshing honesty, and I decided on a tibial osteotomy. Entire experience was very relaxed, Mr Elson’s skills and advice for recovery have enabled me to have a fully active life again, including mountaineering and CrossFit, life changing difference.
David took time to listen to the goals I wanted to achieve, and it's clear he cares about patients' wellbeing. He was happy to discuss options and we agreed surgery for my torn ACL. He explained all I needed to know and was happy to answer questions. He's also a great surgeon and I"m now 7 weeks post op, walking round with hardly any pain or swelling. He has many years of experience and it shows. So happy he agreed to do my surgery, I would definitely recommend him.
My latest visit to Dr Elson ended with a discharge letter something I didn't think would ever happen. The results of his care have been life changing, for 24 years I've woke up with aches and pains from an old motor bike accident, I'm now pain free and enjoying an active life again.
I am so glad that I decided to consult with Mr Elson in particular as he was patient and kind when I initially contacted him at a time when I was very confused and distressed re my future.The consultation was detailed and comprehensive re discussing my decision making regards to knee replacement.Thanks to Mr.Elson I now feel confident in making an informed decision to not proceed at this point in time with a knee replacement.
