Mr Sharad Bhatnagar

Mr. Bhatnagar is a highly skilled Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery, as well as knee arthroscopy (keyhole surgery). He has been a consultant since 2015 and has built a reputation for his expertise in joint replacement and minimally invasive techniques.

Mr. Bhatnagar began his medical training in India before advancing to specialist orthopaedic training in the Northeast of England, where he earned his FRCS (Tr.&Orth) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He further refined his skills as a recipient of the esteemed Cavendish Fellowship in primary and revision arthroplasty in Sheffield. His career has included consultant roles in Bolton and Sunderland before he joined Newcastle Hospitals, where he continues to serve with distinction.

In addition to his surgical expertise, Mr. Bhatnagar has a strong focus on trauma care, particularly in the management of peri-prosthetic fractures, and he serves as the trust lead for fracture neck of femur cases. A dedicated educator, he trains orthopaedic registrars and mentors surgical care practitioners, actively contributing to the development of future surgeons.

Mr. Bhatnagar’s commitment to research is evident through his role as a principal investigator in national multi-centre trials. He is also actively involved in service improvement initiatives, including the introduction of an enhanced recovery pathway for joint replacement patients, promoting early mobilisation and a quicker return to an active lifestyle.

His professional memberships include the British Orthopaedic Association, the British Hip Society, and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
