Dr Joseph Lawler

Dr Joseph Lawler is a highly qualified Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist who provides comprehensive care for patients experiencing a wide range of digestive and liver conditions. With a patient-centred approach, he focuses on delivering clear diagnoses and evidence-based management plans. Dr Lawler is dedicated to improving patient outcomes through high-quality clinical care, combining international expertise with a compassionate approach to help individuals manage both acute and chronic gastrointestinal issues.

His clinical practice encompasses the screening, diagnosis, and management of general gastroenterological and liver diseases. Dr Lawler has a particular interest in the prevention and detection of gastrointestinal and liver tumours, as well as the management of inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. He also regularly assists patients with coeliac disease, gastrointestinal reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, and various forms of hepatitis and chronic liver disease. To support these clinical areas, he performs key diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including endoscopy and colonoscopy.

Dr Lawler completed his medical degree at the University of Sydney, having previously earned a Bachelor of Applied Science. He undertook his residency and subsequent advanced training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at major teaching hospitals in Sydney. In 2011, he was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Committed to public health and medical education, he also completed a Master of Health Policy at the University of Sydney in 2013. To further refine his expertise, Dr Lawler completed a clinical fellowship in liver medicine and liver transplant medicine at a leading international medical centre in New York City, where he gained valuable experience in cutting-edge treatments for chronic viral hepatitis.
