About Dr David Joseph
Dr David Joseph is a highly experienced General, Upper Gastrointestinal, Hepatobiliary and Bariatric Surgeon based in Sydney, with more than 20 years of specialist surgical experience.
He provides specialist assessment and surgical treatment for a broad range of conditions, including gallstones and gallbladder disease, hernias, reflux and hiatus hernia, as well as conditions affecting the stomach, liver and pancreas. Dr Joseph has extensive experience in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, including laparoscopic gallbladder removal and hernia repair.
Dr Joseph is also an experienced bariatric surgeon, performing gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, SADI-S and revision bariatric surgery. He provides individualised assessment and ongoing care for patients considering weight loss surgery, including those with previous bariatric procedures who require further investigation or revision surgery.
After completing his medical degree at the University of Sydney in 1996, Dr Joseph undertook specialist General Surgery training at Royal Prince Alfred and Concord Hospitals. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2002 and subsequently completed advanced international fellowship training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr Joseph is the former Chair of the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery at The Mater Hospital in Sydney and also holds appointments at several leading Sydney hospitals including Royal Prince Alfred hospital, Concord Hospital, Mater Hospital, Prince of Wales Private Hospital and East Sydney Private Hospital.
